How we treat adults
Because jaw growth has finished, we move the teeth into the right position with light forces and precision – which is kinder to teeth and roots. For visible areas, aesthetic tooth-coloured braces are available. We treat with durable, sustainable materials and with restraint: as much as necessary, as little as possible.

We schedule appointments so that they fit around your working day, usually six to seven weeks apart. Waiting times are short – the practice is centrally located in Sachsenhausen and easy to reach.

That depends on the findings and on your insurance. You receive a written cost plan from us in advance, with no hidden items. If jaw surgery is medically necessary, statutory health insurance contributes as well. What makes sense in your case is something we clarify at the initial consultation.

Is treatment still worth it at my age?
Yes. It is still possible now to straighten the teeth and give you a confident smile.
Will the treatment be visible?
For visible areas we offer aesthetic tooth-coloured braces that are barely noticeable in the mouth.
Does health insurance cover anything?
For adults, treatment is usually a private service. If jaw surgery is medically necessary, statutory health insurance contributes as well. We discuss the details at the initial consultation.
How long does the treatment take?
For adults, treatment takes between 4 and 18 months, depending on the findings.
Does the treatment hurt?
We work with light forces. After an appliance is adjusted, there is usually only a brief feeling of pressure.
Do I need a referral from my dentist?
No. You can book an appointment with us directly. If you do have a referral, feel free to bring it along.
Do you work with clear plastic trays?
We work mainly with durable, sustainable materials. Which route makes sense for you is something we discuss at the initial consultation.
Do teeth have to be extracted for the treatment?
That depends on the findings. We first examine every option for using the space available before extraction comes into consideration.

Do you also speak English?
Yes. Dr Jelena Schmitz trained at the Eastman Dental Institute in London, among other places. Whether she communicates in German or in English makes no difference to her. Our team also speaks Italian, Serbian, Croatian, Turkish and Dutch.
